Technical Writing Program
I took a technical writing program at the Institute of Business and Technology. It was definitely what I had expected it to be – more or less a crash course on writing but involved a lot of work. We had to do homework every night, and we had assignments that were really hands on. We were asked to do a lot of different things, and created sample documentations including manuals, guidebooks, technical guides and procedures and so much more.
The technical writing program gave me a clearer understanding of what technical writing really is. You see, corporations hire technical writers to help them with writing up guidelines, procedures, methodologies and so many other processes to document ways of doing things. Why do they want to hire technical writers? Well the answer is simple.
Technical writers who go through a technical writing program find out and learn just what is required of them as technical writers. Corporations are heavily relying upon technical writers who can compose documentation for their employees to follow. This is especially most important to large corporations with complex business systems and models.
The technical writing program will definitely prepare you for a career in technical writing, whether you intend to pursue it as a full time job or as a freelance business opportunity. But what you really have to invest your time in is doing a job search and using your educational background as a springboard to actually find those opportunities.
Investing in a technical writing program is well worth the time and money, and anyone telling you otherwise has probably not gone through a very beneficial and informative technical writing program. Remember, it pays to be educated, especially in the technical writing field!
