Technical Writing Proposal
Nader Miraslov was asked to prepare a technical writing proposal for a project that was being contracted to freelance technical writers. Having worked as a technical writer for the past eight years, Nader, based out of his home in Pennsylvania, didn’t hesitate to impress his potential employer with his technical writing ability.
The technical writing proposal requested of Nader and the other freelancers submitting bids for the project required a lot of preparation. Not only did it demand of them their technical writing resume, but it asked for a complete summary of the services that they would offer the length of time it would take to complete the project, and several other details that would provide the employer needed information to make a decision.
It was Nader’s technical writing proposal that was the most impressive, not only because his technical writing resume was simply a piece of paper that really set him apart from all the rest, but more so because of his clarity at expressing project costs and requirements. It definitely gave him an edge over his counterparts.
If you have ever had to prepare a technical writing proposal, use Nader’s example to prepare you for what to expect when it comes down to finding freelance technical writing projects or technical writing jobs in general. It really does pay to be detailed and working with a technical writing proposal that gives you the job is much better than taking a casual approach to it.
Remember, it is the technical writing proposal that essentially serves as the project plan, and when employers see that a freelance technical writer is capable of preparing one well, they definitely receive a lot more consideration than those who do not.
